Creating education and employement opportunities in St Albans

News |

Creating social value sits at the heart of the CCOS South project.

As a project that is prominent in St Albans City Centre, we will leave a positive legacy, not only through the transformation of new residential and commercial facilities, but also via create of employment, education and community engagement activities. With the support and emphasis placed on social value by St Albans City & District Council, together we can drive tangible change to the local community.

In partnership with St Albans City & District Council, CIDORI and the Job Centre Plus we have committed to helping local unemployed people by offering a two-week employability training course. During the course they visited the CCOS South site to gain some onsite experience. They spoke to the site team to find out more about their experience of working in construction and asked them questions about project itself.

The programme was a huge success resulting in all 15 participants completing the course to achieve a Level 1 Health and Environmental awareness qualification and the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) test and card. The card enables them to work on a construction site having completed this mandatory training.

The team also arranged interviews and opportunities within Morgan Sindall Construction to the participants and our supply chain partners O'Neil and Brennan.

Design Engineer & Construct (DEC) Course

We have adopted Aldenham School to implement the design, engineer and construction course as part of their curriculum.

DEC is an accredited learning programme for secondary-school age students and has been expertly developed to create and inspire the next generation of Built Environment professionals.

Through a product-based approach, DEC applied pure academic subjects to the latest construction industry practices. The result is young people with real-world practical experience and employability skills. As well as assisting in the teaching of the lessons at Aldenham School, they have also visited CCOS site to learn about construction.
