CPD session held on site

On the 23rd March, the team welcomed 10 apprentices to the Radiotherapy site and held a CPD (continued professional development) event on the Bunker Walls.

Christabel led the session explaining to the attendees the design of the walls and reasoning behind this, explaining the importance of the thickness and density of the concrete and primary barrier in relation to the Linac machines and subsequent radiation.

A practical session was then held onsite where the apprentices got to see first hand how the EFCO shuttering system worked, and completed some quality inspections on the verticality of the walls.

Finally, all attendees had a go at making their own concrete cube, which are made every time we have concrete onsite. Once cubes have cured we crush them to check the compressive strength.

The session was extremely informative and gave all our apprentices and opportunity to understand how a concrete bunker is built.
