MKUH Radiotherapy Centre - March 2023 update

News

HERE'S YOUR March UPDATE FOR MKUH RADIOTHERAPY CENTRE

Site activites:

  • The beginning of March saw the completion of the ground floor slabs to link and block 2 – leaving just link 3 remaining.
  • The team also erected the steel frame to Block 1 and 2, and completed the metal decking throughout, including stud welding so the reinforcement can be tied into the upper slabs.
  • On Block 3 we have continued pouring sections of the bunker walls, completing a further 7 pours in March, with one remaining for April. We also started installing the deck to the bunker roof ahead of starting to tie in the reinforcement bars.
  • Finally, we completed the dig and pour for the new substation where all the HV power will feed the building from.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

On the 15th March, Kelly attended Loughborough University to give a lecture to first year Construction Engineering and Management students on professional code of conduct and ethics. The session was aimed to be interactive discussing examples of where ethical choices can be made and how behaviour, skills and knowledge all contribute to professionalism. Kelly explained some of the ethical decisions the Morgan Sindall team have consciously made in relation to the works at MKUH, including the use of a GGBS additive in the concrete bunker and operating plant and machinery using HVO fuel.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Our regular work experience student has continued to develop and widen his skillset. This month he has been looking ahead at the brickwork package, having completed a measure prior to ordering the bricks accounting for the correct level of wastage. He has also been delving deeper into the brickwork drawings and looking at the details to produce his own check-sheets to help monitor the quality of the work.

James has also been heavily involved in helping the team prepare for the CCS (Considerate Constructors Scheme) Inspection, due on April 6th. He has been working through the criteria for inspection and preparing evidence of the positive impact our site has on the local community, the workforce and the environment.

WHAT'S COMING UP!

In April, we will look to complete the bunker wall pours and commence with the roof structure to close out the large structural elements.

We will also be starting the fire protection to the steels, installation of block 1 staircase, commencement of the external SFS (external walls), commencing the roof finishes and also pouring the first-floor concrete slab.

A very busy month ahead and you should start to see the site become busier as we welcome more trades.
