Morgan Sindall Construction has secured three prestigious accolades at the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Scotland Awards, with wins across people development, safety and sustainability.
The awards, which celebrate individuals and teams driving excellence across the construction industry, saw Rachael Topping receive the Rising Star Award, Paul Dabrera was honoured with the Extra Mile Award, and Elizabeth Halliday was presented with the Sustainability Award.
Rising Star Award
Rachael Topping, Learning and Development Advisor, was recognised for her transformative work creating pathways into construction for young people across Scotland.
Since 2022, her partnerships with schools, charities and public bodies have engaged more than 750 participants through programmes including the World of Work Tasters events and collaboration with Nilbymouth, a charity promoting inclusion and anti-sectarianism. Her pilot Introduction to Construction programme with Lenzie Academy also resulted in seven students gaining employment after experiencing construction work firsthand at the company's Twechar Outdoor Pursuit Centre project.
Extra Mile Award
Paul Dabrera, Senior SHE Advisor, received the Extra Mile Award for his outstanding contribution to safety, health and wellbeing on the £21.8 million Newton Nursery project.
His innovative approach included implementing bilingual safety protocols for a specialist Dutch contractor, introducing Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS) standards ahead of Scottish requirements, and developing bespoke training materials that have demonstrably reduced safety incidents.
Paul will commence a PhD in August 2025 to investigate why UK construction fatalities are not decreasing and identify solutions for protecting the workforce.
Sustainability Award
Elizabeth Halliday, Head of Responsible Business, received the Sustainability Award for her strategic leadership in embedding environmental responsibility across the business.
Her leadership has contributed to the company saving 48,540 tonnes of carbon through initiatives including the '10 Tonne Challenge' and CarboniCa - equivalent to heating over 18,000 UK homes annually. Elizabeth drives innovation in low-carbon materials, champions local supply chains and social enterprises, and delivers carbon literacy training within schools.
Stuart Parker, Managing Director at Morgan Sindall Construction Scotland, said:
To see three members of our team recognised at the CIOB Scotland Awards is a tremendous achievement and reflects the passion and commitment that runs throughout our business.
Rachael, Paul and Elizabeth each represent something fundamental to how we work - developing people, protecting people, and improving the environment. Their achievements show that true excellence in construction is about people, purpose and progress.
We’re incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved and grateful for their dedication to building a better future for construction in Scotland.”
