Swanmore College students visit site

Recently we invited some of the students from Swanmore College to visit a live site following on from their recent award Morgan Sindall Construction sponsored at the iConstruct event held last year at Fareham College.

Susan Dee, Social Value Manager, said:

''It was good to follow-up with some of the same students and further demonstrate the vast array of roles and diversity we have within the construction industry. A short classroom presentation about career routes and the project itself followed by a walk around gave them a real insight into our activities and the daily challenges we face.”

Marian Davies, Teacher, Swanmore College, added:

Andrea, Swanmore pupils and I would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the insightful presentation and the invaluable tour of an actual construction site that your team provided during our recent visit. The information shared about the diverse career opportunities within the construction industry was not only enlightening, but enabled our pupils to understand the possibility of pursuing a career in this dynamic field. The day-to-day operations given in the presentation and tour, offered a firsthand glimpse into the challenges and rewards of working in such an environment. The expertise and passion for the construction business was evident throughout the presentation and tour. We truly appreciate the time and effort invested in showcasing the various aspects of the industry, from project management to onsite execution. The opportunity to engage with professionals in the field and ask questions directly enhanced pupils’ understanding and provide invaluable insight.
Please extend our thanks to Joe and all those involved in organising and facilitating the event. Experiences like these are instrumental in helping young people make informed decisions and career paths.”

I was really surprised to learn how many different jobs there are involved. It was really interesting learning how different they all were too.
Loved it. I am so glad my mum signed me up for it. I was just so amazed at the various jobs involved. Also, how the actual planning takes longer than the building. It has made me rethink my career ideas.
It was good to be able to visit the actual site as it was being built. Also, to see the rooms in their various stages of construction. It was incredible to see how much work goes into each room.
I thought all the different jobs connected with building the site were incredible. I had no idea as to the job opportunities available. I am certainly thinking about going into construction.
I was surprised by the number of different job opportunities there were. It made me think about possible jobs I could do.
It was interesting to actually see the fire station in the process of being built. The cost and the amount of preplanning surprised me. It has made me think about a career in construction.
This visit was a good way to understand the jobs opportunities the construction business could offer.
I thought all the apprenticeship information was good. Also being able to walk around the site and see all the work in progress. I am particularly interested in the electrical side of things.
