Progress
Key facts
This project will be delivered in phases. The progress bar above is indicative of the current phase of works (phase 1).
Proposed phases:
Phase 1 – April 2026
Phase 2 – July 2026
Phase 3 – October 2026
About the project
HSDU, is the new refurbished unit located in Great Yarmouth.
The project is reconstructing HSDU at James Paget University Hospital and doing RAAC remediation works.
Project highlights
We will be installing full RAAC failsafe supports to the entire area and the follow requirements to allow JPUH to have a compliant HSDU.
- Core infrastructure:
- Utilities: Treated water for washers (RO/softened as specified), validated clean steam, HVAC with pressure differentials and temperature/humidity control, adequate drainage, medical‑grade compressed air where required, backup power.
- Ergonomics & IPC: Height‑adjustable benches, adequate lighting, magnification, ultrasonic cleaners with lids, splash protection, cleanable finishes, hand hygiene stations, and PPE provisions.
- Logistics: Dirty and clean transport routes (trolleys/lifts), secure loan‑kit intake area, quarantine spaces for non‑conformances, and a dispatch area adjacent to sterile stores.
- Decon & sterilisation assets: Pass‑through washer‑disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, inspection scopes, heat sealers, steam sterilisers (autoclaves) sized for load profiles, low‑temperature sterilization (e.g., H₂O₂ plasma) if required by device IFUs, drying cabinets, and pack/wrap systems.
- Instruments & packaging: Standardise instrument sets; validated packaging (pouches/wraps/containers) compatible with the chosen sterilisation modalities; robust stock and repair loop.
- IT & tracking: Implement an instrument tracking system (scan at each step), barcode/UDI, load building and electronic load records, BI/CI result capture, dashboarding for KPIs, device IFU library, and integration with theatre scheduling where possible.
- Commissioning & validation: IQ/OQ/PQ for every washer and steriliser; routine control with BIs/CIs, Bowie‑Dick/Helix tests, washer performance tests (protein/residue checks), water/steam quality monitoring, and preventive maintenance with service contracts and calibrated sensors
