Newsletter- January 2025

Welcome to our first newsletter for the Mill Yard project. ​

Morgan Sindall is a leading UK construction, infrastructure and design business working for private and public sector customers on projects from £50k to over £1 billion. This ranges from small refurbishments to complex construction and engineering projects across the commercial, defence, education, energy, healthcare, industrial, leisure, retail, transport and water markets. ​

This project will be run by our Cambridge office, which is based in Sawston, meaning all our staff are from the local area. You will see that our key project team members are shown on the website and pop in and speak to us should you have and concerns or feedback.

Progress- Jan

As of the start of January, we have now taken control of the site and have made a good start with work on site.​

The tall machine you see on site is the piling rig which is drilling down into ground and forming concrete pile foundations (a bit like stilts). There are circa 500 of these cylindrical concrete columns going around 15m into the ground. ​

We have also started and completed the two attenuation tanks which have been designed to collect the rainwater from the buildings, store it and allow a controlled discharge at a designed rate into the main system to ensure the infrastructure can cope with the water flow in times of heavy rainfall.

In the coming month we will continue with the piling and foundation operations as well as installing the vast network of underground electrical and communication ducts and drainage pipes that will serve the buildings once they are complete.​

The final thing to mention is the erection of the first tower crane that is due to commence at the start of March, more details of this will be given in next month’s newsletter
