MKUH Radiotherapy Centre - January 2023 Update

News

Here's your January update for MKUH Radiotherapy Centre

Site activites:

  • We kicked off the new year by continuing the temporary site hoarding, that will be in place throughout the duration of the project
  • We also commenced below-ground drainage works including connecting into the main existing sewers ahead of starting pad foundations
  • Over the course of the month, we completed the installation of all pad foundations to Block 1 and the link into the cancer centre and started preparation for the structural slab. These pad foundations averaged 3 x 3 x 1.2m in size.
  • Alongside this work, we started critical work on the above-ground bunker (block 3)
  • We started by reducing the ground and installing the insulation and damp-proof membrane ahead of pouring the slab
  • The slab itself was poured in two halves, and it’s over 1.3m deep

Refer to the Building Layout Drawing page for an understanding of the different Blocks.

Community engagement

On the 31st of January, James (Project Manager), Christabel (Assistant Site Manager) and Norma (Community Manager) joined the careers event held by Thornton College for Girls. We had the pleasure of speaking with students from Thornton as well as other local schools about career opportunities and entry routes into the construction industry.

Thornton College said:

Thank you SO much for attending the event yesterday. The feedback from students, both from Thornton and visiting schools, has been fantastic. I really appreciate you giving up your time to attend and all the preparation work you did to make your stand so engaging.”

Work Experience

On the 13th of January, the Morgan Sindall team were joined by a T-Level student from Milton Keynes College. James A will be joining the team every Friday for 40 weeks to experience what working on a live building site is really like. James will be completing a rotation with all staff to learn about Site Management, Quantity Surveying and Design Management. We are looking forward to supporting James in the early stages of his career.

What’s coming up

Next month, we will be looking to progress the ground floor structural slab for blocks 1 and 2 and the bunker walls for block 3.
