Project Update - July 2025

The £36 million transformation of Southampton’s Outdoor Sports Centre is firmly under way!

The start of works on site were marked by a groundbreaking ceremony in late June. The event was attended by Morgan Sindall, Satvir Kaur MP, Southampton City Council representatives, along with local stakeholders and sporting groups.

Construction zones across the site are in place and works are progressing well.

The Community Hub is moving swiftly through its preparation phase, with foundation works due to start in August. By the autumn, the building is expected to begin rising from the ground which will create a new focal point for visitors and community activities.

In the Woodland Car Park, teams are working at pace to form the shape of the new car park and installing the perimeter kerbs while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.

The Family Zone which is a key feature of the redevelopment has already seen the former boating lake reshaped in readiness for specialist works set to begin later this year.

The Alpine Snowsports Centre is also gearing up for significant change with slope improvements and the demolition of the existing ski lodge scheduled for August 2025. Hoarding has been installed and surveys are under way.

When complete, the redeveloped Outdoor Sports Centre will offer unprecedented benefits to residents, recreational and sporting communities, delivering modern, accessible facilities that reflect Southampton’s ambition as a city for active living. The project also signals a major step forward for the city’s sporting future.
