University of Southampton CivSoc Visit

Year 1 and 2 students at University of Southampton studying civil engineering visited site recently to see and learn first-hand the relevant activities on site at the Outdoor Sports Centre.

Harry Mills, Senior Site Manager and Susan Dee, Social Value Manager, met them in our new Community Quad facility and gave them an overview of Morgan Sindall and the details of the project before walking around the site.

They chose a great time for their first visit with all areas of the works having civil works underway. Straight away they could see how these works impact the overall construction for each building and how ground conditions had to be overcome in different ways in each area.

CivSoc thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit to the site. For many of our members it was one of their first times experiencing such a wide range of engineering, especially geotechnics practices. Harry, Susan and Jo were amazing at welcoming us to their site which they were clearly proud of and didn’t hesitate to explain each part of the construction. We will take this newfound knowledge into our lectures and can’t wait to return and see the progress in the next year.
