Security Controller (National Construction Business)

Location: National – Based at any Morgan Sindall Construction Office with UK wide travel
Project Based & Office Based, with flexibility for occasional remote working

We are looking for an experienced and talented Security Controller to support the Head of Security by providing guidance and advice for all secure project enquiries, with proactive advice to all departments on varying aspects of security and information assurance compliance for the national business.

About the role:

You will be working within our National business, where you will:

Develop and maintain awareness of upcoming projects and ensure the implementation of security when using is built into all guiding principles from initiation through to delivery. Act as initial point of contact when a security breach occurs, alert or unusual event. Ensuring compliance to SMP’s during bid and delivery phases

  • Keep up to date with the latest security and technology developments
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all secure projects and for ensuring the application of security controls for the appropriate protection of information assets
  • Responsible for ensuring all security projects and programmes meet HMG Customer and Corporate information security and data compliance requirements
  • Facilitate briefing sessions regularly to the appropriate personnel
  • Champion service and process improvement activities and challenge the status quo in our current processes
  • Reviewing and periodically assessing supply chain partners to ensure compliance, including people, processes, and digital tools and systems.
  • Versatile and will enjoy a variety of work.
  • Engagement and influence our staff, subcontractors, consultants and clients.
  • Drive and desire to improve themselves and the business.

What are we looking for?

Qualifications & Training

  • A high level of personal integrity and discretion is essential as is the ability to hold/attain and maintain an HMG security clearance.
  • Proven experience in data security management, preferably within the construction or related industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of data classification methodologies and regulatory requirements, particularly in handling Official Sensitive and Secret classified data.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in collaborating with clients and stakeholders to develop security management plans.
  • Experience coordinating security vetting processes, including SC level clearance, with government agencies.
  • Proficiency in conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and implementing recommended controls.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.

Technical Skills & experience

  • Good knowledge of all aspects of security.
  • Ability to train colleagues at all levels
  • Working knowledge of HMG Security Policy Framework, GovS 007 and Good Practice Guides –
  • experience in driving continuous improvements in business processes and the ability to identify root cause corrective actions
  • understanding of the fundamentals of the General Data Protection Regulation principles
  • experience working in the security field, including experience working with HMG information assets in a secure environment
  • ability to conduct regular Security Risk Assessments and audits, review and monitoring of related standards and arrangements spot checks
