Senior Quantity Surveyor Cambridge

Location: East (Sawston office)


We’re seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in main contracting and a proven track record of overseeing and managing the commercial delivery of diverse projects across the East region.

This position is a mix of office and site based, with flexibility for occasional remote working.

About the role:

You will be working within our Cambridge business, the role will include:

  • initially appointed as a Senior Quantity Surveyor on a major £90m+ project reporting directly into the Managing QS.
  • complete management of Multiple Subcontract Packages of large value including procurement, placing orders, change assessment, payments through to Final Accounting all in accordance with Morgan Sindall policies and procedures
  • Undertaking Main Contract Valuations and pricing of Client Variations
  • Providing accurate internal and external financial reporting on packages including end life forecasts and liabilities
  • Supervision, support and advise direct reports
  • Identify opportunities to maximise values and minimise costs.
  • Identify risks and propose mitigation strategies
  • In future being a Lead Senior Quantity Surveyor on a £20m-£40m project

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Lead Surveyor on £20m+ projects, ideally in the Education, Commercial or multi-unit Residential market
  • Demonstrated expertise in package procurement and management across complex scopes and large value
  • Excellent understanding of the Cambridgeshire construction market, supply chain, and regional challenges
  • Proficiency with JCT contracts and NEC
  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Proactive, commercially focused mindset with a keen eye for detail and risk
  • working knowledge of second stage tendering procedures and contract negotiations would be an advantage

As an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be used to working on your own initiative with knowledge of the procurement of sub-contractors and the monthly measurement cycle associated with, a BSc or HND (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or other equivalent commercially related subject.
