National Apprenticeship Week 2021 - Build the Future

Get into Construction as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2021.

This year's theme for National Apprenticeship Week is #BuildtheFuture. Something our apprentices are already doing on a daily basis, as they build the state-of-the-art schools, hospital and community facilities we will need to meet the demands of our local communities.

Our apprentices are also building their own future

As digital construction technology develops and new sustainable and exciting products make the buildings we create fit for the future, our apprentices are working in an ever changing and exciting industry and learning and demonstrating the skills and experience they need to build their future career in construction.

We've compiled a range of vlogs, interviews and comments from some of the apprentices working for Morgan Sindall Construction today, who want to share with you how they came to apply for the role, their first few days and weeks, who they have been working with and their on site experience as apprentice quantity surveyors, site managers and more. The range of roles in Construction is far wider than those you typically see on a project site, so take a look through the resources to find out more.

Our apprentices also share their aspirations for their own careers as they #BuildtheFuture of construction.

We worked with neaco (The Network for East Anglian Collaborative Outreach) who support young people with little to no experience of university to explore the world of higher and apprenticeship education.

Virtual Work Experience (VWEx)

In March 2020, due to the pandemic the Morgan Sindall Construction team had to cancel any plans for face-to-face work experience opportunities. 60% of our apprentices have joined us following one our careers events, that this was a huge blow for the team.

However just weeks later we embarked on our online work experience programme in partnership with Speakers for Schools, an online experience where students join us via Google Classroom. As part of the sessions students hear from our site managers, engineers, architects and design managers about their work, take virtual site tours and work together in team building exercises and a projects to redesign one of our own construction projects.

150 students took part in our virtual work experience in 2020, and we have more planned in 2021. As the situation develops we also hope to be able to blend online learning with face-to-face learning in the future.

Our first virtual work experience group talk about their time on the VWEx programme:
