Blog: Anything’s achievable if you put your mind to it

What is it like joining Morgan Sindall Construction after a career in the military?

It’s been a busy time for assistant site manager, Daniel. After leaving the parachute regiment.

He joined the Morgan Sindall Construction team via a placement organised by BuildForce UK, has started a family and has achieved his NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management. But it’s no surprise that he’s achieved this in such a short period of time when he has such a hard-working and positive mindset.

Daniel spent eight years in the construction industry before following a lifelong dream of serving in the Armed Forces. But when he met his fiancé and they started a family, he started to look for a new role that would give his family stability as well as enable him to play an active part in his new family’s day to day life.

Daniel contacted BuildForce UK, a collaborative industry-led programme, of which Morgan Sindall Construction is one of the founding members. The charities objective is to reduce skills gaps in the construction industry whilst offering a second career to military personnel.

BuildForce arranged a one-week work experience placement, at the end of which Daniel excelled and the site arranged for a three-month permeant placement. Just before Christmas 2018, Daniel was offered a permeant position as an assistant site manager and is now well and truly part of the team.

We’d like to thank Daniel for sharing his story from a career in construction, to the military and back again! As he talks about the skills he has learnt along the way, existing skills from his career he has been able to apply and how as a working dad his family have influenced his career decisions.
