Morgan Sindall breaks ground at £14.4m primary school in Hampshire
Construction work has begun on a new £14.4m primary school in Hartland Village, Fleet, Hampshire, for Hampshire County Council (HCC) which is being built by Morgan Sindall Construction.
The Hartland Primary School will provide a modern learning environment for children aged four to 11, with capacity for up to 420 pupils. Once complete, the school will play a key role in supporting the local community as it continues to grow.
Morgan Sindall’s Southern business was appointed by HCC to construct the project, which was procured through the Southern Construction Framework (SCF).
Located close to the centre of Hartland Village, the new school will comprise a 2,087m², two-form-entry primary school. Construction began in May, with the school scheduled for completion in June 2027 ahead of its planned opening in September 2027.
The new facility will feature bright classrooms, a central library, main hall and dedicated outdoor spaces for play, sport and outdoor learning. Walking and cycling routes will also connect the school with the surrounding neighbourhood, helping to make the facility easily accessible to local families.
A key feature of the project will be its use of an off-site manufactured timber frame. Known as a Streif frame, the MMC system helps to improve efficiency and reduce waste during the construction process while providing a high-quality and sustainable building solution.
The development will also include external single-storey canopies and brise soleil shading, alongside extensive external works including footpaths, car parking, paving, play areas, sports pitches and new planting. A below-ground drainage cellular attenuation tank system will also be installed to control the release of rainwater back into the local water system.
The school is being built alongside the wider Hartland Village housing development, with Morgan Sindall working closely with the developer to coordinate on-site activity. As parts of the development are already occupied, construction will be carefully planned and scheduled to minimise disruption to local residents.
Morgan Sindall is committed to delivering social value throughout the project. An intern has already joined the tier one contractor’s team, while a T-Level student is due to start on the scheme, providing valuable opportunities for local people to gain experience and develop skills within the construction industry.
