Morgan Sindall Construction appointed for £10m Edinburgh Fire Station rebuild
Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) to demolish and rebuild Liberton Community Fire Station.
Procured through the SCAPE Scotland Construction Framework, the £10m scheme will deliver the first new-build fire station in Edinburgh in more than 30 years, and the first anywhere in Scotland since the creation of the national service in 2013.
Occupying a key strategic location for SFRS in responding to emergencies across Edinburgh and the east of Scotland, Liberton station will provide a modern facility designed to support communities and meet SFRS service delivery demands for decades to come.
The new facility will include upgraded welfare and decontamination facilities and an improved community space, with specific areas for managing contaminated fire kits to bolster the safety and wellbeing of SFRS staff.
The project forms part of a wider programme of works to address fire stations affected by reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) over the next five years, with further repair and rebuild works planned across the country.
The appointment builds on Morgan Sindall's long-standing relationship with SFRS, following the successful delivery of a programme of four fire station refurbishments at Inverness, Dingwall, Newcraighall and Galashiels.
