Morgan Sindall Construction becomes real living wage employer

Morgan Sindall Construction has been accredited as a Living Wage Employer, a commitment that guarantees its staff will earn a wage that meets the costs and pressures of everyday life.

Morgan Sindall Construction’s pledge to pay the Living Wage will see all its staff receive a minimum hourly wage of £9.30 in the UK or £10.75 in London. Both rates are significantly higher than the government minimum for over 25s, which currently stands at £8.72 per hour.

This commitment to paying the real Living Wage and delivering a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work reflects Morgan Sindall Construction’s dedication to improving employer standards in the construction industry.

Landmark projects currently being delivered by Morgan Sindall Construction include The Spine - the Royal College of Physicians’ (RCP) new £35-million northern headquarters in Paddington Village, Liverpool City Council’s development site, and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust’s new mixed patient clinical services and medical education facility for the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. The company has also been appointed to transform a historic Grade II- listed radio station into a £39 million secondary school in Houlton; the new community being developed on the outskirts of Rugby.

The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 250,000 people and put over £1 billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers.

Morgan Sindall Construction will undertake a range of activity relating to the accreditation during Living Wage Week, which takes place w/c 9 November.

Morgan Sindall Construction’s commitment to creating a better working culture across the built environment was also recently evidenced by its involvement in the launch of Work Radar, a new platform connecting individual tradespeople, micro businesses and social enterprises with leading contractors. The service will help thousands of construction workers find local work and supports the government's plan to progress shovel-ready projects in response to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
