Smart new solutions for the school places challenge

A ‘fairer, faster and greener’ approach to delivering a green industrial revolution is top of the government’s wish list - and greater use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) in education is part of the story.

Having moved from a niche conversation to a mainstream approach in education, MMC is becoming a valued tool in meeting demand for school places around the country. The public sector has been ahead of private developers in taking advantage of the benefits the MMC can bring and Essex County Council is amongst those blazing a trail.

In this podcast, we explore how MMC has been used on three new exemplar schools in Essex and discuss what other councils can learn from the approach. Our guests include Andrew Lawrence, the project manager from Essex County Council, Simon Rawson from Eco Modular Buildings, Nicola Gemmell from consultants Pick Everard and Dale Smith from Morgan Sindall Construction, who have all been deeply involved in the project.
