We’ve been shortlisted for the CN Workforce Awards!

News |

Our We Thrive – 100% Safe initiative has been shortlisted in the Mental Health & Wellbeing Initiative of the Year category at the Construction News Workforce Awards.

The shortlisted initiative reflects our commitment to creating a culture where health, safety and wellbeing are embedded into everyday working life. Designed to remove barriers to support, encourage open conversations around mental health and provide practical health interventions.

A defining feature of We Thrive – 100% SAFE is its extension beyond Morgan Sindall employees to include supply chain partners, ensuring everyone working across its projects has access to the same high standards of care, support and wellbeing resources.

Delivered in partnership with wellbeing specialists The Healthy Employee, the programme combines site-based activities with a year-round calendar of live wellbeing events, covering a broad range of topics including mental health, resilience, mindfulness, nutrition, physical activity and lifestyle health.

Throughout the year, colleagues and supply chain partners have participated in a variety of specialist sessions and awareness campaigns, including Neurodiversity Celebration Week, Pride Month, Menopause Awareness, prostate and testicular cancer awareness, mindfulness, emotional intelligence and stress management. Guest speakers have included leading advocates and subject matter experts, helping to drive engagement and encourage meaningful conversations around health and wellbeing.

A key element of the programme's success has been the development of the business’ existing Safe Start campaign, a focused four-week initiative designed to support employees and supply chain partners returning to work after the holiday period.

The campaign reinforced the connection between health, wellbeing and safe performance through targeted sessions on healthy lifestyles, wellbeing, diet and cardiovascular health. By placing wellbeing at the centre of its safety message, the campaign helped reinforce the principle that a healthy workforce is fundamental to creating safe and productive working environments.

A year round approach

As part of the entire programme, Morgan Sindall has invested heavily in capability building across its entire workforce.

The business has also continued to provide fully funded Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training at all levels of the organisation and crucially to supply chain partners at no cost, helping to strengthen wellbeing support across project teams and creating a shared approach to health and wellbeing across the wider delivery network.

In addition, a free and confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) has been made available to both employees and supply chain operatives, providing 24/7 access to counselling, financial guidance and legal support.

Alongside mental wellbeing support, the programme has delivered a range of practical health interventions directly on site. Working with The Healthy Employee, Morgan Sindall has facilitated wellbeing checks, healthy eating demonstrations, desk massage sessions, weight management campaigns and preventative health initiatives, including PSA testing for prostate cancer.

The impact of these interventions has been significant. The health check programme has engaged with approximately 1,950 individuals, resulting in 22 GP referrals related to potential prostate cancer concerns and three referrals for thyroid-related conditions and more for issues such as blood pressure. These outcomes highlight the programme's role in supporting early intervention and encouraging individuals to seek medical advice sooner than they otherwise may have done with a GP.

Martin Hall, Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Director for Morgan Sindall Construction, said:

"Being shortlisted is recognition of the commitment shown by our people, our supply chain partners and our wellbeing delivery teams in creating a culture where everyone feels supported to thrive.

We Thrive is about ensuring that everyone who works with us has access to meaningful support, practical health interventions and the confidence to talk openly about mental health and wellbeing.

We are particularly proud of the way the initiative has been extended across our supply chain and of the life-changing outcomes that have been achieved through early health interventions and awareness campaigns."

The winners of the award will be announced on 3 November at a ceremony in London.
