Work starts on site at £7.8 million Aylesbury vale depot expansion

News |

Construction work is underway on a major expansion programme for Aylesbury Vale District Council’s (AVDC) central operations depot following the appointment of Morgan Sindall Construction.

A turf cutting ceremony has taken place to celebrate the start of redevelopment works to AVDC’s waste and recycling services depot on Pembroke Road. The expansion is part of the council’s plans to cater for the Vale’s growing population, which is expected to increase the number of properties in the region dependent on its services.

The council has appointed Morgan Sindall Construction to deliver a £7.8 million expansion to the depot’s facilities, including a new workshop, office facilities, a vehicle wash and an MOT testing centre.

Investment has already been made in 17 new vehicles to provide a modern and efficient service for residents. The new vehicles will generate extra capacity, with each one featuring a 200 litre fuel tank that will reduce the need for drivers to take return trips to the depot to dispose of waste.

Councillor Sir Beville Stanier Bt, AVDC Cabinet Member with responsibility for Waste & Licensing, said: "AVDC is fully committed to upgrading and future-proofing the Pembroke Road depot. We need to bring the current facilities up-to-date with high-quality, sustainable infrastructure that ensures our staff are properly equipped with the right facilities and equipment to meet the needs of the Vale's growing community."
David Rowsell, area director for Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “We’re very pleased to be working with the council to deliver their vision for this dynamic, multi-purpose facility and the long-term benefits it will bring to the district.
“Morgan Sindall Construction has delivered several projects in Aylesbury Vale in partnership with the council and we’re looking forward to continuing to build on this legacy.”

AVDC's depot expansion is Morgan Sindall Construction’s latest project in Buckinghamshire, following the successful handover of the new £6.8 million Abbey View Primary Academy in High Wycombe on behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council. In Bedford, the company has recently been appointed to deliver a redesign and refurbishment of Goldington Academy, which will create 150 new student places. The project is being delivered for the Department for Education (DfE) via the DfE framework and was procured via the Southern Construction Framework (SCF).
