Here we’ve compiled the most commonly asked questions received during our consultations.

The stadium will be upgraded and refurbished to be London’s year round home for athletics at both community and elite level; including the ability to host international athletics events.

The stadium will focus on athletics. The infield will also be upgraded to allow for use by team sports as it has in the past.

The pools will re-open with the reopening of the main centre; this is currently forecast for 2028.

The 25m pool is being relocated into the main building’s pool hall alongside the 50m pool and dive pool. The addition of new movable floors and booms will allow for fully flexible, programmable pools for all pool users.

The current multi-use artificial pitch (used for both hockey and football) does not meet current size and safety standards for either sport. A new artificial pitch will be constructed in a relocated position to the rear of the main building and will be full size with a new multi-sport surface.

No, the old dome was end-of-life and has been removed. New 3G 5-a-side football pitches will be constructed to the side of the main building.

GLL are our valued partners and will continue to operate and manage the centre now and during the construction period (where possible). We will be running a procurement exercise for the future operator in due course.

We are committed to remaining an affordable centre for the local community and beyond.

There will inevitable be some disruption to services as we enter the construction period later in 2026 (for example the main building is likely to close for c. 2 years). However we are working on plans with GLL for temporary provision during construction and will be actively engaging with existing clubs on these temporary solutions.

We have engaged with Vin Goodwin at Access=Design for inclusive and accessible design consultancy works. Vin has a background in architecture and has been working in access and inclusion for over 20 years. He brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record. Vin has previously been involved in schemes including the London Olympics Aquatics Centre, Olympic Parklands/Public Realm and Wembley Stadium.

A triathlon transition zone will be provided, we will agree the exact position with the Crystal Palace triathlon club.

We will liaise with the Crystal Palace Park Trust on the future arrangements.

We will be upgrading existing pathways, lighting levels and CCTV coverage to provide safe routes within the park.

We are actively liaising with the existing Jubilee Stand tenants on temporary arrangements for as and when works take place to this stand.

There will be minimal disruption to the houses.

- The main centre will need to close for c. 2 years

- The Paxton Axis walkway will remain open during the works.

- The external pitches, and stadium will need to close for periods of the works, the dates and times for these is currently being finalised.

Yes, we are looking to provide climbing facilities in the new scheme and are engaging with the BMC on these new proposals.

We are working on plans for a temporary provision during construction, these will be published when finalised.

Our works are being coordinated with the wider park regeneration works to create ’One Park’ future.

- Fully accessible design solution.

- Accessible deck level access to the pools for the first time in the buildings history.

- Step-free access created between Penge and Crystal Park stations.

- The standard parking spaces will be removed from the Paxton Axis to create improved pedestrian access to the centre and external pitch area.

- The disabled parking spaces will remain in their current locations.

The existing traffic routes and access are being maintained, there will be no change.

- To create a new play space focusing on sport within the wider park with a café.

- Free to access, outside of the centre.

- A focal point for the community to enjoy the outdoor spaces including 200m running track.

Social Value is at the heart of construction we are planning to offer opportunities for work experience, apprentices, learning events and will be installing a dedicated ‘Knowledge Quad’ to facilitate this.
