News |

Dear Hackney resident

This is a follow up letter which contains further information on the Tree work, Site set up preparations and to correct a typo in the Morgan Sindall contact email address.

We have been appointed by Hackney Council to carry out the refurbishment and expansion works of the Kings Hall Leisure Centre. We are due to commence our initial site setup preparations from Monday 5th January 2026 and we envisage all works to be completed by end of 2028.

Below is a summary of the key site setup preparations and early construction activities:

Week commencing 5th January 2026

On Monday 5th January at 8am, the existing car park north of the Kings Hall Leisure centre will be permanently closed to the public. We will also be carrying out some initial surveys throughout that week.

Tree Removal within the existing northern Leisure centre car park from 5th January 2026:

We have included below, a snippet showing the overall Tree Plan scope for the Kings Hall Leisure Centre development which has been approved by Hackney Council through the planning process.

The below table identifies which trees are to be removed and retained to facilitate the initial MS site set up. The only tree that will be removed at a later date will be reference ‘T1’ located in the south east corner of the site.

It is worth noting that the site preparation works mentioned above are being carried out in co-ordination with Hackney council, with Morgan Sindall actually taking ownership of the site from Monday 26th January 2026.

Once the site setup preparations are complete, we will be commencing the asbestos removal from early February 2026. Our main works including demolition activities are due to commence in March 26.

We have worked closely with the London Borough of Hackney Highways team and agreed a Traffic Management strategy on Clapton Square. This involves some parking alterations and set up of a construction vehicle pit lane while maintaining two way cycling.

Alteration works will likely commence around February 2026 but further information will follow in due course via a letter and our website.
