Key facts
Restored Victorian features
- The ornate, historical elements of Kings Hall, including the former ladies' pool, glazed brick walls, Victorian roof structures, and the iconic roof lanterns, will be carefully preserved and enhanced to highlight the centre's heritage.
Improved accessibility
- A new main entrance on Clapton Square will offer barrier-free access to all visitors, while wayfinding enhancements ensure that spaces are intuitive and accessible for all.
Enhanced sports and fitness facilities
- The new Kings Hall will boast a fully compliant sports-hall, reinstated pools - including a new teaching pool, updated fitness studios, and a health suite. These facilities will address a critical need in Hackney for increased sports and fitness spaces, supporting London's and Hackney's policy goals of promoting healthy lifestyles.
Sustainable infrastructure
- The centre's mechanical and electrical systems, including water filtration, ventilation, and lighting will be replaced with advanced energy-efficient systems. These updates will drastically reduce the building's carbon footprint while enhancing its long-term viability.
