Residents Letter - Tower Crane

News |

Dear Hackney resident,

Works are progressing well on the Kings Hall Leisure Centre project and we wanted to make you aware of some upcoming key works.

We have now reached the stage of the project where the main demolition works are nearing completion and we are transitioning into the new structural works.

To facilitate the new structural works we require a tower crane to be erected, which will be located as shown in the snippet below. The tower crane erection is currently booked to take place from Monday 19th October 2026, we anticipate it being fully operational from Monday 26th October but some trial lifts will be carried out prior.

For the erection of the tower crane, we will need to bring in a large mobile crane to lift the sections into place and get the crane operational. We anticipate the mobile crane being on site for 2 days including Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th October, it will be positioned in the location shown below:

All lifts will take place within the site boundary and will be kept away from neighbouring properties. All works will be controlled and overseen by qualified lifting professionals.

Please note, the mobile crane will need to arrive prior to 6am, it will be positioned and switched off until our permitted working hours. On the second day, the mobile crane will need to leave after 7pm but will not be in operation past our permitted working hours ending at 6pm.

Due to the size of the mobile crane and associated crane masts, we will require deliveries throughout the week commencing 19 October, they will be larger than usual and require distribution via our alternative agreed logistic route around Clapton Square. Our qualified and skilled traffic marshals will manage all delivery manoeuvres during the works.

We have shown the route for the mobile crane and deliveries within the snippet below:

As part of the tower crane erection, we will be setting up a zoning system on the crane which will prevent any lifts over sailing neighbouring properties and ensure we are only lifting within the site boundary. The blue circle shown below illustrates the extent of where the crane could lift to, but with the zoning system and ability to bring the jib in on a luffing crane, we can ensure all lifts will be within the site boundary.

The pink circle shown below illustrates the out of service radius where the jib will potentially over sail outside of working hours, just to confirm that the crane will not be in operation during this time.

A luffing crane has been selected for site rather than a saddle crane to reduce the amount of oversailing.

Just to note that if the tower crane is unable to be erected during the week commencing 19 October due to issues such as extreme weather, we have a back up date agreed for the week commencing Monday 26 October, which will require the mobile crane to be on site for Monday 26 October and Tuesday 27 October 2026.

At present, we anticipate the tower crane being in place until around the end of May 2027. A separate letter will be issued ahead of the dismantle date once it has been confirmed nearer the time.

We can assure you that every activity included within this letter will be overseen and managed by specialist lifting teams as well as the Morgan Sindall project team.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and cooperation whilst these essential works are undertaken.
