Project update - October 2023

News |

Here's the latest update:

Site activities:

The Houghton Regis Community & Leisure centre project continues to drive forward on programme. The erection of the steel frame is ongoing with the full length of the building now visible. The pool water tests have now been completed and we've started making progress with the pool filtration system. All ground bearing slabs are now complete and the metal decking has commenced to the upper floors.

The demolition works are also complete with all the rubble now processed for reuse as a subbase for the car park which the groundworkers have now started working on.

Community engagement

We welcomed 7 students from the Chiltern Academy on the 20th Sept for a site tour, this tour was a follow up to a careers presentation that Morgan Sindall carried out at the school towards the end of the last academic year. Our QS Apprentice, Sam Martin, attended an event on 23rd Sept hosted by the Lieutenant of Herefordshire promoting apprenticeships in construction.

We have numerous work experience placements planned and school engagement events organised for the upcoming months!

Upcoming work

We are very excited to be receiving the glulam beams, with seven deliveries due to arrive in the first few weeks of October. The glulams will span across the full width of the pools and will be installed along with the remainder of the steel frame. The pool filtration system will be ongoing and pressure tests will be carried out on all pipework. The ground workers will commence with the drainage and attenuation tanks in the new carpark area. A section of the first-floor decking is now complete allowing the ground workers to prepare and pour the upper floor slab. New contractors: Fire shield will be starting on site to coat the steel work with fire protection paint. Advance Roofing and Woodhurst will be joining us on site towards the end of the month to commence on the main roof and masonry works respectively.
